Social Justice and Law

The power of law can be used to achieve social justice, meaning equal distribution of wealth and resources in a society so that everybody has a fair chance to grow and thrive in whatever field they choose. There is a need to study the existing social and political issues and connect them with relevant laws. There are organizations that serve to protect human rights in many different fields and one may approach them to discuss options available for further action, seek immediate safety in case of abuse or violence, and finally approach criminal or civil courts to file a case and to protect themselves and their families against any future act of violence or breach of rights.

Key legal, social and political issues

The key issues remain almost the same in all areas of social justice and they revolve around two basic entities: poverty and racism. In Europe, welfare to work is a term used to define strategies that promise to change people’s lives by providing them with equal opportunities to earn. However, there are still some areas that need to be addressed in order to create a true welfare state. These include;

– Introducing intermediate labour markets for low skilled personnel to earn a decent living through more robust employment creation schemes.
– Providing legal protection to workers so that their wages are not cut to gain temporary profits.
– Offering financial incentives, such as extra tax credits to improve human capital.

Inequalities in welfare and social justice

The most common inequalities that exist in the way of social justice are wage and income inequality and social exclusion. There is a need to change some employment policies in order to address the issue of wage inequality in UK. Some of these include national wage bargaining and minimum wage floors. The threshold of skills and competency should be lessened so that even low skilled individuals can get decent jobs.

How has Social Justice affected the Law?

Areas of social justice in which a punishment becomes mandatory directly affect the law. These include civil rights violations, domestic violence and abuse, forced marriages, statutory rights, immigration status and other social issues that call for an immediate action on part of the authorities. People who are directly or indirectly affected due to these offences or crimes should be provided with a platform to use law as their weapon and attain legal representation to fight their case.

Social justice has penetrated the law because the above-mentioned crimes are not acceptable in any society and to address these issues should be the topmost priority for the government. Steps like Call to end violence against women and girls serve to awaken the authorities to take action against those responsible. For example, in case of a forced marriage abuse is often used as a weapon to pressurize the person who doesn’t want to get married. It is seen as a type of violence in UK and an abuse of rights.

What Laws have Social Justice played a part in

Laws regarding discrimination based on gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation are directly related to social justice implementation. These social issues exist everywhere in the world, not just in UK. Wherever they are prevailing, they cause huge hindrance to growth, affect economy, and destroy the essence of culture. For various social justice fields like civil rights, immigration, education, environment, health, disability rights, and feminist jurisprudence, certain laws can be made and practiced in a country.
Law and the justice system already exist for domestic violence, forced marriage, and statutory rights. Guidelines on all these areas can be easily accessed in the context of UK law.
