Archdiocesan Immigration Action TeamUnderstanding, Education, Advocacy
"...it is of paramount importance to remember that our religious and civil traditions demand that we respect and respond the needs of the most vulnerable people amoung us." ~ Archbishop Harry Flynn, 2006
Inspired by the Church’s Social Teachings, the team was founded to educate Catholics throughout the Archdiocese on the complex issues faced by immigrants and to mobilize advocacy for just immigration legislation. This team consists of parishioners throughout the Archdiocese and supported by Office for Social Justice staff. The work of this team is to plan strategies in partnership with other advocates who promote comprehensive immigration reform. Through team formation and parish social justice committees, we are building a committed and knowledgeable community to work for fair comprehensive immigration reform at the federal and state levels. This team advises parish groups, develops educational and resource materials, follows legislative activity, arranges meetings with legislators and organizes phone and letter campaigns.
