Archbishop Flynn Joins Other Faith Leaders in Meeting with Senator Coleman About Global Warming
November 20, 2006: Saint Paul, MN…Leaders from three of Minnesota’s faith communities, on behalf of the leaders of nine faith groups, hand-delivered a letter to Senator Coleman today, calling on the Senator to take national leadership on global warming solutions. Citing the Christian Bible, the Torah, and the Quran, signatories of the letter identified caring for people and the planet as a critical responsibility for people of faith, and that the consequences of global warming threaten all creation. They encouraged Senator Coleman to be a national leader on global warming by supporting a responsible, mandatory national program of market-based limits on and reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases.
“Global warming is a threat, one that will affect generations to come, noted Archbishop Harry Flynn of the St. Paul and Minneapolis Archdiocese. “The atmosphere surrounding us that supports life is a God-given gift. It must be protected. Those of us living in the United States should be leaders in efforts to curb global warming, not resistant followers.”
